Marketing services for BC trades and local businesses

Most BC service businesses need two or three of these services, not all five. The right starting point depends on how full your schedule is and how many regions you serve.

Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

Pick services by the problem you have, not by the list an agency wants to sell. A Lower Mainland electrician with a two-week backlog needs different help from a Prince George plumber with an empty Tuesday, and both need different help from a Victoria painter who wants bigger jobs. Below is what each service does, who it suits, and the signals that tell you to start there.

Every service is delivered by a marketing team, not a trades crew. BCAgency.ca does not install, repair or service anything.

Local SEO for BC service areas

Start here if you want steady work from people searching for your trade in the towns you serve, and you can wait a few months for it to build. Local SEO covers your map listing, your location and service pages, and the consistency of your business details across the web.

It suits businesses that serve a defined area and plan to stay there. It is the slowest service to show results and the one that keeps working longest when you pause spending. In thin markets such as the Kootenays or the North, it is often the only channel a small firm needs.

Signals that it should come first:

  • You rank for your company name but not for "[trade] in [town]".
  • Your map listing shows the wrong category, old hours or no photos.
  • You serve several towns but your website mentions only one.

Start here if you need calls this month, or if you are entering a new town and cannot wait for search rankings. Google Ads by region means a separate campaign, budget and schedule for each market, so Burnaby clicks do not eat the money meant for Chilliwack.

It suits businesses with clear job values, someone who answers the phone, and a margin that can absorb a cost per lead. It does not suit a company that is already turning work away.

Websites built around your service map

Start here if your current site is slow, hard to use on a phone, or written as if you work in only one place. A website built around your service map gives each region and each main job its own useful page, shows licence details where they matter, and puts call, text and email one tap away.

Almost every other service works better on a good site. If the site is the weak link, fixing it first saves you paying for traffic that leaves.

Google Business Profile and reviews

Start here if competitors with worse work outrank you on the map, or if your newest review is older than your newest truck. Profile and review work completes your listing and builds a simple habit of asking every satisfied customer for an honest review.

It is the lowest-cost service with the quickest visible effect, and it matters more in small BC communities, where buyers often know your competitors by name.

Marketing strategy and consulting

Start here if you are not sure what to buy, or you are weighing a bigger decision: opening a second region, hiring an office manager, or dropping a service line. Strategy and consulting gives you a senior second opinion and a written plan, with no requirement to buy anything else.

How to choose in five minutes

Answer these questions honestly:

  1. Is your schedule full for the next three weeks? If yes, skip ads for now and invest in profile, reviews and SEO.
  2. Do you know your average job value and close rate? If not, start with a strategy session; you will need those numbers for every other decision.
  3. Do you serve more than one region? If yes, your website and local SEO need region pages before ads can work well.
  4. Is your newest Google review more than three months old? Then reviews are a quick win.
  5. Has an agency burned you before? Then start small, keep ownership of every account, and judge us on booked work. The FAQ covers how we handle that.

Our pricing page shows how these services group into plans, and the areas hub explains how we set them up differently in each part of BC.

Frequently asked questions

Which service should a new BC trades business start with?

Usually a complete Google Business Profile and a simple, fast website, followed by local SEO. Paid ads make sense once you know your job values and can answer the phone reliably.

Can I buy just one service?

Yes. Our plans bundle services, but we will tell you if one service alone, such as a review programme or a strategy session, solves your actual problem.

Do you install, repair or service anything?

No. We are a marketing and business consulting service. The trades work is always done by you and your crews.

Do services differ between regions?

The services are the same, but the settings change: budgets, keywords, ad schedules, page content and review targets are set per region.
